This is a renovation of an existing cold storage room. The aging refrigeration equipment and wooden structure was demolished and replaced with an entirely new, state of the art, pressure cooling system for cherries, pears and apples. Design, demolition, fabrication, installation, and electrical control panels were all engineered and provided my SMI.

Cull and Brine Hydro-Cooler

The purpose of this hydro-cooler is to supply chilled water for fruit transport flumes at a cherry processing plant. Water in the tank also serves as a gentle transfer of cherries from incoming flumes to a partially submerged set of elevators in the tank.

This is a cold storage expansion for an existing client in need of more storage space. The building is used to remove field heat from incoming product through Pressure Cooling and also for cold storage.

The use of Solidworks allows for a much more detailed and sophisticated product for our clients. Designing a product in 3D ensures that when it comes time for construction, there are no discrepancies between plans and every part fits perfectly. We have received a considerable amount of positive feedback from this “what you see is what you get” approach.

Main Processing Line Hydro-Cooler

This hydro-cooler was designed for a cherry packing facility in need of a larger cooling unit, with the ability to move 25-30 tons of fruit through it per hour. This more doubled the volume of fruit the line could handle and gave them the ability to expand their operation. Chilled water rains down on the cherries as they pass through the hydro-cooler, removing heat from the product. The chilled water is also pumped from the tank to supply the fruit transportation flumes for this section of the plant.

Portable Hydro-Cooler

Portable hydro-cooling trailers are used in the agricultural field when product is harvested. It is essential to remove the field heat from the fruit immediately after harvesting, to improve product quality integrity. This helps give the fruit a longer shelf life for the consumer. This unit was designed and built for a cherry farmer who required a more efficient field cooling process. The trailer is capable of cooling six stacks of cherries, four bins high, in seven minutes.

Cogeneration Plant

Consulting services were required for piping of a cogeneration plant. The 3D renderings were used in clarification of the proposed piping layout. 2D plans were generated using Solidworks for use during construction.

Pallet Conveyor Control Panel

This UL508A Listed panel was built for a pallet conveyor system for use in the frozen foods industry. It has 20 Allen Bradley PowerFlex 4M Adjustable Frequency Drives, an Allen Bradley CompactLogix Controller, and a PanelView Plus 1000 HMI, plus all other necessary controls. Design, Fabrication, Integration, and Startup all performed by SMI.
